Husbandorcat's musings on career of herself and colleague triggered memories of this rather good poster campaign of the GGs - it does seem apt for some other spheres.

Absolutely! As said - Thjoughts were triggered by comment from HorC about academia.... What's depressing is that it was written in the 80's and doesn't seem that out-of-date.

And its not only applicable to art, but music, and among the whole spectrum of women in various professions.
As you know, I was criticising in my 'Nerina Nyro?' post, the way sexual expectations and associations are made between an artists music and their looks. What has someones appearance got to do with their artistic merits? I mean Mick Jagger and his mates where no pin up but were nonetheless key figures in 60's counter-culture. And Joni Mitchell is no Britney Spears catwalk pussy... But she is a whole different level of artistry.
We have moved on from the 80's, but paradoxicly still seem to be in much the same place. Fuckit, maybe psychodworkin was rite and all men do fundamentally hate us..

I love name "psychodworkin"!
A long time ago in "The Female Eunuch" Greer made similar point - And while some individual men are wonderful, I suspect that fundamental issue of woman as 'the other' will undermine and poison gender rlationships for a while yet. For me (as you probably know by now) feminism isn't about female chauvinism but liberating all people by understanding the history of female oppression among other oppressions and moving on.

Which is a balanced and reasoned approach to have. There is a time and place for "female chauvinism", and a time for dialogue and bridge building.
