Interesting! I can honestly say it's never once struck me that cleaning teeth might be viewed as unpleasant. Unlike, I might add, cleaning ovens. :) James.

It's a bit weird isn't it? I don't know why I dislike it - just do! And in films wandering around with toothbrush in gob is sort of symbol of intimacy, but I hate it.

Thanks :)
Have a hug (or 3).
and Mike and Lilian - what d'you reckon? ;)

Hugs always welcome - Cheers!
Mike and Lilian - there is an understanding there, but Lilian obviously never considered it before - remember her amusement when Mike thought she may want more than dancing lessons? That said, she may be revising her opinions since Matt is running true to form. And she always had a soft spot for Eddie as well. Is she too much a snob for a real worker? She never met Jim the Prof did she? That may have amused. She is good at pricking pomposity and Heather's is a bit of a bore...

Yes, I wondered about Eddie, too.
But that would be a bit too much, I think. she might make a pass at him, but I think she wants something a bit more permanent, and he would never leave Clarrie - that would be a bit too much, even for the Archers scriptwriters! It could only end in some horrible sickly reconciliation a la Ruth/Daveeed XX(
Nope, I reckon Mike's your man.
Now, why can't there be a few more nice, sensitive, intelligent widowers out there in the real world? :**: (not that I have a thing for milkmen, I'm just speaking hypothetically here)

Yes, but he did have to go through clinical depression and widowhood to get humanised. Remember he was the Sun-reader whose son got involved with racist thugs...

Yes, I was going to say, do you remember when he was the bolshy arsehole everybody loved to hate?
No one ever claimed that Ambridge was a haven of consistency and plausible characterisation ;D.
It's just widowers in general who seem like an attractive proposition right now.
Any single/divorced men our age, you can't help thinking... why?

:>> They have softened him, haven't they? :>> So what did you think of the Prof, then? I thought a caricature, but so much more interesting than his dreary son despite 'excitement' of gambling addiction!:zz:

Can't say I took to him myself - why did the 'token academic' have to be such an arrogant aehe? Well, it would have to be that or daffy and absent minded, wouldn't it? (I guess there was a bit of that too) blatant stereotyping, that's what it is - just gives us intellectual types a bad name. >:-(
Agree with you about Alistair, though :zz:
there again, there's a marriage made in heaven if ever there was one. they deserve each other.
and he's the only character I'm aware of who has made the transition from 'non-speaking' to 'speaking role' - a claim to fame of sorts.
I noticed last week they managed to have Neville Booth speed dating with Kirsty without him actually saying a word! :P

Well, my attempt to moderate my language fell flat there, as surrounding letters by asterisks obviously just emboldens them.
Suffice to say, the word after arrogant was an 8 letter noun with two letters between a and e and 2 more between h and e :P

I like it when they have fun with the silent characters. Fat Paul at Slimming Club also amused me. You are so right about the lazy stereotyping of the 'academic' - I think he's probably the only one who's ever strayed into Ambridge...

Non-Archers related comment:

Like the barefoot on the Severn bridge one, barefoot is good when it's warm enough, toe socks otherwise :P

I have visited the Archers Message boards, but they're too fast and furious and overwhelming for me. Nice to have one's say in Blogland. I also see myself as more of an anarchist than an addict, but it's open to debate...

Last time I listened to that, ages ago. I remember Nelson because a friend of mine said his voice made her 'all goosey'. :)

What happened to him? He did not die in the 'real world' did he?

He did die, but they had him simply away for a while as character, before killing him off...

As a right hander I think Left handed is cool.

BOOH was produced by Todd Rundgren. My teenage ikon. But I have somewhat went off him as the years have went by.
