Was talking about my Porthcawl pic as time capsule image and thought about this pic I had of my dad and his workmates, which I love. Dad is one with cap and hands in pockets.

Which century?
It is a piece of history...it is a pictorial record of a time past but still just within living memory of some.
What makes you think the position of the guy in front makes him the gaffer? Is there some protocol here, do you think? Looking at the guy at the very back, he has a similar presence.-

Whoops! - 19th century I meant - have now edited. All pics are 'history' in some sense - I suppose it is having one of my Dad that could be set so much earlier, or be in an archive somewhere. I think it's the waistcoat and lack of overall, plus age that makes me suspect chap at front is gaffer, but I agree that chap at back looks more important than ones in between
